Emma Eveleigh, 22, from Liverpool, England, is currently an au pair with CHI Au Pair USA. Emma is having a great time helping to take care of her host family’s children, Scotty (age 6) and Meri (age 4). But that’s not Emma’s only interest. When she’s not spending time with the family, she enjoys volunteering at The Comedy Spot in Arlington, VA.
Emma had a bit of experience with theater back home, but she had never tried improv or comedy before. It wasn’t something she was even considering until a friend and fellow au pair took her to see a comedy show for her birthday. She instantly loved it. When she found out they had auditions coming up, Emma knew she had to give it a try.
The auditions went well and Emma was given a chance to perform. Now, she’s on stage most weekends as a part of the Comedy Sportz family friendly show, as well as the late night show. She has already made some amazing friends and has loved getting to try her hand at something completely new.
Emma signed up to be an au pair because she loved kids and she loved America. She thought, what better way to experience her two favorite things? Being an au pair was a perfect choice and Emma is having a great time. In her own words, “its turned out great, CHI is a superb program and my host family is incredible”.
In addition to spending time with her host family and performing comedy, Emma loves the amazing museums and historical buildings in the DC area. She also amusingly notes that she’s quite pleased about the Taco Bell that is right down the street from her host family’s home.
Emma plans to extend her au pair stay for a second year. When she does return home to England, she’d like to open her own childcare business. And just maybe, she can also find a bit of time to continue performing her standup comedy.
A group of DC au pairs recently went to see Emma perform and snapped these pictures. Thanks for sharing your story with us, Emma!
